Some love stories begin with dinner reservations, flowers, and candlelight.
This one began hundreds of feet above New York City. When I first saw the couple standing at the very top of the Empire State Building, I coouldn’t believe what I was watching. They had climbed one of the most recognizable buildings in the world, eventually reaching the very top. As if that wasn’t breathtaking enough, the moment became even more unforgettable when the man proposed to the woman.
I had two completely different reactions.
The first was amazement & how were they able to climb that far up with no one seeing them.
Reaching the top of a skyscraper like the Empire State Building requires incredible physical strength, endurance, confidence, and trust. You don’t simply wake up one morning and decide to do something like that. It takes years of experience, careful planning, and an understanding of exactly what you’re doing. Watching them move with confidence made it clear this wasn’t their first climb.
My second reaction was concern. As beautiful as the proposal was, I couldn’t stop thinking about the danger. One mistake, one loose grip, or one unexpected gust of wind could have changed everything in an instant. The height alone is enough to make most people dizzy, and it reminded me just how fragile life can be.
Still, love has a way of creating unforgettable moments.
Most proposals happen in parks, on beaches, or in a restaurants. This couple chose one of the highest places imaginable. With New York City stretching out beneath them, they created a memory unlike any other.
Would I ever do something like that?
Not a chance.
I’ll happily admire the view from the observation deck or even better, from the ground. My feet are staying firmly planted where they belong! I can appreciate the courage and determination it took without wanting to repeat it myself.
Their story also reminds us that people experience adventure differently. Some people chase sunsets from mountaintops. Others climb skyscrapers. Some of us enjoy watching those adventures safely from our phones while quietly saying, “ Y’all be careful.”
One thing is certain: their climb and proposal captured the world’s attention. Whether you saw it as an incredible display of courage, an unforgettable love story, or a risky decision that could have ended differently, it’s the kind of moment people won’t soon forget.
As for me, I wish them nothing but happiness and a lifetime of wonderful memories together. Hopefully, their biggest adventure from now on will simply be planning their wedding.
What Do You Think?
Was this one of the most romantic proposals you’ve ever seen, or do you think the risk outweighed the reward? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
