When people play on an episode of the AskVelvet Podcast, they hear the finished product. What they don’t hear are all the moments that happen before I ever hit “publish”.
Podcasting is so much more than sitting in front of a microphone and talking. Every episode represents hours of planning, writing, recording, editing, listening, and, more often than not, recording all over again. Believe it or not, I usually record an episode at least five times before I’m finally satisfied with how it sounds and how it flows. If I stumble over my words, don’t like my delivery, or feel like my energy isn’t quite right, I start over. I want every episode to be something I’m proud of before I share it with the world.
One thing that surprises people is that I don’t have a professional podcast studio. I record my podcast entirely on my Iphone. I don’t have a computer dedicated to podcast production, and I don’t have expensive podcasting equipment. I have an Iphone, a microphone I purchased from the TikTok Shop, and a dream. That same microphone is what I use to record many of my TikToks as well. It may not be a fancy setup, but it has allowed me to pursue something I’ve always wanted to do.
Of course, I dream about having better equipment someday. I’d love a professional microphone, a computer, and all the tools that could help me create an even better listening experience. That’s one of the reasons I always encourage listeners to click the “ Support The Show “ button. Every bit of support helps me move one step closer to upgrading my equipment and continuing to grow the podcast.
Until that day comes, I’ll continue creating with what I have.
I’ve learned that you don’t have to wait until everything is perfect before you begin. Sometimes you simply start where you are, use what you have, and trust that your passion will carry you forward.
As time has gone on, I’ve realized something else. My podcast and now this blog has become a full-time job for me. Yes, I have a part – time, but every free moment I have is spent writing blog post, planning new episodes, brainstorming ideas, recording, re – recording, editing, promoting my work, and thinking about what comes next. It takes a tremendous amount of time, energy, and dedication, but I truly enjoy every minute of it. This isn’t something I have to do. It’s something I love to do.
I’ve always loved entertaining people. Storytelling, sharing my thoughts, making people laugh, offering my perspective, and creating conversations have always come naturally to me. I come from a family of entertainers, so in many ways, podcasting feels like it was always meant to be part of my journey. It feels like home.
Even with all the work that goes into it, I still find myself wondering if people are truly enjoying what I create. I can see the download numbers, and I’m grateful for every single one, but numbers don’t tell me if a story made you smile, if an episode made you laugh, or if something I shared helped brighten your day. Those are the moments I hope my podcast and blog create, because connecting with people is what means the most to me.
Every single day, I pray over my podcast and blog. I pray that it reaches the people who need it. I pray that it continues to grow. I pray that the right listeners discover it. And I pray that one day it receives enough support for me to invest in better equipment and continue building something even greater. My faith reminds me to keep going, even when progress feels slow, because every journey begins with a single step.
So I’ll keep writing.
I’ll keep recording.
I’ll keep re – recording.
I’ll keep editing.
I’ll keep creating.
And most importantly, I’ll keep believing.
Because this podcast isn’t just something I do – it’s something I genuinely love. This blog has become an extension of that same passion. Together, they have become a creative home where I can tell stories, share life experiences, express my opinions, and connect with people from all walks of life.
