Well, I am feeling truly blessed because I not only have a job but I have two. One is working late into the night but I’m a concierge at a front desk. I’ve always enjoyed being a concierge because of the people I get to meet and the stories I am told. I don’t take it for granted the people I meet. The building I worked in had me in awe of its architectural beauty. I walked around the lobby just wondering how can so much beauty exist in one place. Now I love learning so I learned that the building had been built in 1931 but opened in 1932 as an art deco building. I’m not sure what an art deco building is but in time I will learn. I also learned that it’s listed in the National Register Of Historic Places and its recognized as a contributing property in the Cleveland Park Historic District.

My first evening working there was really great I met the people I was replacing and I saw the love that the residents had for the previous concierge which made me realize that I have some big shoes to fill. I learned the reason I was replacing them which was because of business and it’s nothing that we as employees have control over.

I met a resident who was seventy years old and she didn’t look a day over forty. I know in the black community we always say black don’t crack but this resident was of the caucasian community and whatever she was doing it was working but she had no work done on her appearance. I considered her to be very naturally beautiful, she definitely had that runway model appeal. But then she had a story to tell that was very interesting and intriguing and as I sat down on the antique couch to listen I became captivated. I will say that I learned she speaks all over the world about her life experiences and she wrote a book. Later I will tell her story which is one that must be told.

I truly believe that the people we meet are never by chance but by purpose. So it was by purpose that I was able to get hired to work at the apartment complex because the stories I am able to hear are because of that reason. As I continue to work there I know I have a reason and my reason is too share my life adventures with my readers.
