So We’re Going To London Now?

Well, here we go again, Commanders fans!

The Washington Commanders are headed across the pond to London to take on the Indianapolis Colts, and let me just say this; I will be supporting my team from the comfort of my own couch!

Yes, London., England. The United Kingdom. Across the big ol’ Atlantic Ocean.

And me?

Right here in Washington, D.C., probably sitting in my pajamas, snacks within reach, remote in my hand, and absolutely no passport required!

The game is Sunday morning at 9:30am Eastern, which means this isn’t your typical football Sunday where you slowly wake up, get yourself together, and wait until the afternoon games.

Nope.

The Commanders are kicking off my Sunday before I have even had a chance to properly mind my business!

And honestly, I’m okay with that.

London, Here We Come!

This is pretty interesting trip for Washington. The Commanders are at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against the Indianapolis Colts, and Washington is officially the home team for this international matchup. And this isn’t the Commanders first international adventure. Washington played in London back in 2016, when the team tied Cincinnati 27-27. The Commanders also played in Madrid last season, losing to Miami 16-13 in overtime.

So apparently the Commanders have decided that regular road trips aren’t enough anymore. We need passports now!

But here’s what I’m watching for. The Commanders are coming off an exciting 33-31 win over Seattle, and Marcus Mariota stepped up in that game while Jayden Daniel’s was sidelined with his elbow injury. Daniel has returned to limited practice in London, but whether he’s ready to play Sunday remains dependent on how his elbow responds. And that’s going to be one of the big questions heading into this game. Because as a fan, I want Jayden Daniel’s healthy.

I don’t want him rushed back just because we have a football game. We have a whole season ahead of us. So if Marcus Mariota has to take the snaps again, then let’s strap in and see what happens.

And can we talk about the fact that this game starts at 9:30 in the morning?

Listen.

I don’t know what London is doing over there, but Washington football at breakfast time is something I’m going to have to mentally prepare myself for! Usually I’m thinking about breakfast. Now I’m going to be thinking about third downs. Usually I’m deciding whether I want coffee. Now I’m going to be yelling at the television:

DEFENSE! WHAT ARE Y’ALL DOING?!

And it’s not even lunchtime!

That’s the life of a football fan.

London or My living room, I’m still a fan

At the end of the day, I don’t care whether the Commanders are playing in Washington, Dallas, London, Madrid, or on the moon.

If they playing, I’m watching.

And yes, I would love to be sitting in that stadium in London with thousands of other football fans experiencing the whole thing. But since my passport, my bank account, and reality have all apparently voted against that idea…

The couch it is!

And you know what?

My couch has excellent seats. The snacks are cheaper. There’s no airplane involved. I don’t have to wait in a security line. And if I don’t like what I’m seeing on the field, I can yell at my television without somebody in London looking at me like I’ve lost my mind!

So Sunday morning, I’m getting myself together early. Coffee? Check. Snacks? Check.

Commanders gear? Absolutely.

Remote control? Don’t touch it.

Because at 9:30am, I’m clocking in for work.

My workplace just happens to be my living room. The Commanders may be in London…. But this D.C. girl will be watching every play from home. So let’s see what happens when Washington takes its football across the pond.

HTTR!

And if the Commanders bring home a win, don’t be surprised if I start acting like I personally traveled to London with them!

That’s my story, that’s my football Sunday, and that’s just how I’m telling it from the front porch or in this case….

From the couch!

And here’s a little tidbit right now I’m suffering from either allergies or a cold not sure which one it is.
